Kinabalu National Park & Poring 5D4N
Kinabalu National Park is the premier herping destination in all of Borneo, Malaysia. The lush montane forest within the park is home to many species endemic to Borneo or even the park itself. We will also visit the lower elevations of Kinabalu, namely Poring which is home to many of Borneo's lowland herpetofauna species.
At Kinabalu National Park we will be herping with an in-house guide walking on the roads and trails that are most likely to produce target snakes. The average elevation of Kinabalu National Park HQ is 1400 meters asl, so the temperatures at night can be rather cool. So a jacket and rain gear is advised.
On the latter half of the trip we would be visiting Poring, a village surrounded by lowland rainforests, just outside of the Kinabalu National Park border. The trails in the lowlands is more dense, and leeches can be common especially on rainy nights.
Target Species: Malcolm's Pit Viper, Chasen's Pit Viper, Red-headed Krait (Bornean subspecies), Kobayashi's Horned Frog, Kinabalu Horned Frog, Kinabalu Sticky Frog, Kinabalu Crested Lizard, Sabah Flying Gecko
